DESCRIPTION:Register for December virtual\nconference: United We Move\n\n\nOne month after the 2020 election\, join thousands of your fellow CCL advocates for a virtual conference on Dec. 5\, when we’ll lay the groundwork for taking action on climate solutions in 2021. \nRegistration is now open for United We Move\, a free event featuring keynote speakers Hahrie Han — a professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University who specializes in the study of organizing\, movements\, civic engagement\, and democracy — and John Wood\, Jr.\, Director of Public Outreach at Braver Angels\, an organization dedicated to bringing liberals and conservatives together at the grassroots level. \nIn addition to the virtual conference on Saturday\, participants can choose one of four seminars happening on Sunday\, Dec. 6. One of these seminars — Bridging the Divide on Climate Solutions with Braver Angels — will be limited to 200 participants. \nFollowing the virtual conference and seminars\, volunteers will hold virtual lobby meetings with their representatives and senators Dec. 7-10. Those meetings will be scheduled by congressional liaisons. Check with your group leader if you would like to participate. \nThe conference is open to the public. She works to educate others about Biomimicry\, and also works for the New Buildings Institute\, a nonprofit that advances zero-energy buildings.\n\nShe will speak about the importance of creativity in sustainable design\, and how nature inspires climate solutions. Within the United States\, she has consulted for heads of state\, departments of defense\, energy agencies and hundreds of state and local agencies. \n5X Speakers: \n Jaimes Valdez\, Portland Clean Energy Fund Startup Team – For the past year and a half\, Jaimes Valdez has been part of the City of Portland team developing the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) program\, a landmark local climate policy championed by a coalition of frontline-led organizations. PCEF is slated to begin funding projects in the new year\, and promises to channel the benefits of a clean energy economy toward the communities who most need it. \nHaley Mountain\, Community Energy Project – Haley Mountain is Community Energy Project‘s Engagement Manager who oversees the Community Education Department and promotes new and existing relationships with community-based organizations\, government agencies\, and funders. Community Energy Project has been deeply involved in the development of Oregon’s Community Solar program\, on which Haley will deliver some exciting updates. \nJoe Wachunas\, Electrify Now – A cherished former changemaker at Solar Oregon\, Joe Wachunas is now working with Electrify Now building a coalition focused around electrification. This key frontier of climate adaptation is rapidly accelerating\, and Joe will share what Electrify Now has in store for 2021. \nGreg Harr\, Solar For All – Solar for All\, Inc. is a grass roots\, 100% volunteer\, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization installing solar photovoltaic systems on affordable homes in Oregon\, and SW Washington. Since 2015\, they’ve installed over 88kW on 23 affordable homes in Multnomah\, Jackson\, and Washington counties in Oregon\, and Clark County Washington. Their work has resulted in 250 tons of CO2 offset and $30\,000 in utility bill savings since 2015. Founder Greg Harr will share stories and details of some of their current projects.

DESCRIPTION:UNESCO is organizing regional online launch events of the ESD for 2030 Roadmap which provides guidance for Member States and other stakeholders for the implementation of the new global framework ‘Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs’ (ESD for 2030): \n\n\nEducation for Sustainable Development (ESD) supports efforts to equip learners with the knowledge\, skills\, values and attitudes needed to contribute to a more inclusive\, just\, peaceful and sustainable world. In its Resolution 72/222 in 2017\, the UN General Assembly recognized ESD as ‘an integral element of the SDG on quality education and a key enabler of all the other SDGs’ and reaffirmed UNESCO’s role as the lead agency on ESD. \n\n\n\n\nTo enhance the global efforts on ESD\, the new framework ‘Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs’ (ESD for 2030) was approved by the 40th UNESCO General Conference and acknowledged by the 74th UN General Assembly in its Resolution 74/233. The new framework ESD for 2030 (2020-2030) builds on the Global Action Programme on ESD (2015 – 2019)\, which followed the UN Decade on ESD (2005-2014)\, and focuses on streamlining ESD within the 2030 Agenda to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals within the next ten years. \nUNESCO has developed a Roadmap which provides guidance for Member States and other stakeholders for the implementation of ESD for 2030. DESCRIPTION:Oversight committee recruitment\nIndependent community oversight has been essential to Metro’s transparency\, accountability and delivery on promises made to voters in each of its funding measures. Applications are now open for the Parks and Nature oversight committee until Nov. 16\, 2020. This independent committee will keep Metro accountable and transparent in its use of the $475 million from the 2019 parks and nature bond measure and the capital funds from the parks and natural areas levy\, which raises about $16 million a year. Committee members will be appointed by the Metro Council. \nMetro is looking for individuals who love parks and natural spaces and have a deep commitment to advancing racial equity as well as knowledge in areas such as finance\, conservation\, environmental law\, tribal sovereignty\, and other topics to serve on an independent committee to provide oversight of Parks and Nature’s capital investments. \nThe oversight committee will: \n\nReview progress of the bond measure’s goals and projects.\nEnsure that the refinement and implementation of the parks and nature bond measure is protecting water quality and habitat and connecting people to nature.\nEnsure projects fulfill the criteria of racial equity\, community engagement and climate resilience.\nProvide oversight on investments from the parks and natural areas local-option levy.\nWork with staff to develop a set of outcomes that will evaluate bond performance.\n\nMembership\nThe Metro Council will appoint 13 to 17 committee members who reflect a broad range of personal and professional experience.
