SUMMARY:Education for sustainable development and global health: Recognizing the inter-linkage of the health of people and the planet
DESCRIPTION:In preparation of the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development on 17-19 May 2021\, in Berlin\, Germany\, in which ESD for 2030 framework will be officially launched\, UNESCO is organizing a series of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) online workshops in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany\, and with the German Commission for UNESCO as advisory partner. The aim is to explore how ESD contributes to building a world that is more sustainable and equitable\, and how ESD provides the basis for how to recover and rebuild beyond the Covid-19 pandemic. \n\n\n  \n\n\nOur natural environment provides us with the essentials we need to survive and thrive in this world. Access to clean water and air\, healthy nutrition and the absence of natural catastrophes are very obvious examples of how environmental conditions will directly impact not only our life expectancy\, but also our quality of life. However\, there are also more complex interlinkages between the health of people and planet. \nMore people now understand how climate change and extreme weather conditions\, the loss of biodiversity and pollution significantly increase the likelihood of emerging new and zoonotic diseases (diseases that transfer from wild animals onto humans). The change of our environment effects the emergence and the progression of infectious disease as currently Covid-19 or also Ebola. But also non-communicable disease (NCDs) – diseases which develop over time due to certain lifestyles or environmental factors\, mental health\, nutrition\, displacement and general wellbeing – are highly connected to our natural environment. Conversely\, research shows that a strong connection to nature can improve wellbeing and general health. \nESD contributes to human health by promoting knowledge\, skills\, values and attitudes on the interlinkages between the environment and human wellbeing\, in particular around issues such as climate change\, zoonosis\, pollution\, sustainable food\, and social and emotional wellbeing. \nIn the light of the above\, this session will address the following questions: \n\nWhat are the interlinkages of between the health of the planet and people?\nHow can ESD contribute to strengthen the awareness that protecting the planet’s health affects humans’ health?\n\nRegister for this event here.

SUMMARY:50by40 Global Engagement Summit
DESCRIPTION:Recent publications\, such as the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land and the EAT-Lancet report highlighted the exigency to reduce our reliance on livestock production and consumption. Thus\, there is an urgent need to facilitate a just transition towards a fair\, healthy and compassionate food system\, delivering nutritious and predominantly plant-based food for all. However\, transforming one of the most deeply embedded systems in this world presents complex and interlinked challenges. \nWith the 50by40 Global Engagement Summit | Voices for a Better Food Future\, we aim to gather voices from across the globe to collectively examine these challenges and\, as a result\, turn them into opportunities to accomplish the change we strive for. \nHosting an accessible virtual gathering provides us with a rare chance to bring together a range of actors working in the food systems to develop a strong and united approach addressing livestock production. With a strong emphasis on mobilising diverse key players\, NGOs\, and communities\, the summit looks into solutions for the planet’s most pressing issues. #FoodEngage20 \n \nFor more information and registration please Click Here.

SUMMARY:Solar Oregon Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Each year Solar Oregon comes together (virtually in 2020) to celebrate our community\, members\, and nonprofit mission. This year\, we have plenty to celebrate: despite a global pandemic and economic slump\, the clean energy transformation is only accelerating. \nWe are thrilled to be joined by internationally-esteemed regenerative economy thought leader Hunter Lovins–founder of the nonprofit Natural Capitalism Solutions. Hunter will deliver this year’s keynote address on her recent work regarding the Solar Dominance Hypothesis\, which has far-reaching implications for global economics\, policy\, and the social impact of an abrupt clean energy transformation. \nWe will also hear 5 minute presentations (our 5X series) from several local leaders in Oregon who are tackling issues of climate and climate justice on the ground. Following these exciting presentations\, Solar Oregon’s board nominations for 2020 will be voted on by our members. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Full speaker bios below. \nKeynote Speaker: \nHunter Lovins – L. Hunter Lovins is the President and Founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions (NCS)\, a non-profit formed in 2002 in Longmont\, CO.
