Originally from Shiprock\, New Mexico\, he now lives in Portland and is putting together a collection of photographs and videos documenting the struggle at Standing Rock. \n350 Activist TBA \nAbout the Film: NECESSITY traces the fight in Minnesota against the expansion of pipelines carrying toxic tar sands oil through North America. When official channels of protest fail or fall short\, activists turn to civil disobedience and lawyers seek to make the courts more just. The film follows indigenous and non-indigenous activists and allies in their resistance to the pipelines traversing native lands and essential waterways. Bring yourself and your friends or loved ones for this hands-on planting with veteran FoT crew leader Conan Harmon-Walker and GPSEN senior adviser Lin Harmon-Walker. If you’ve never planted with Friends of Trees before\, you are in for a memorable experience! \nGet ready for the planting with these helpful tips from Friends of Trees (pay particular attention to dressing for the occasion): \nWhat We’ll Do: FoT will be planting hundreds of native trees and shrubs to increase the tree canopy and beauty at a popular community park! Breakfast snacks and coffee/tea/hot chocolate are provided for all volunteers to get you fueled up for planting. \nWhere to Meet: Durham City Park\, 17085 SW Arkenstone Dr\, Portland\, 97224  (map)  *please park in the small parking lot or find nearby street parking and look for the “Friends of Trees” signs as you get close [and then look for the GPSEN sign near the registration area] \nWhen: Saturday\, March 30th\, 9:00am-1:00pm — please meet by 8:45am at the staging site listed above.
